Benefit From Our Expert Commercial Dryer Vent Cleaning Services

Roman Air Quality Specialist

In hotels, commercial cleaning companies, senior living facilities, health clubs, laundromats, and laundry and ironing services, dryers often run continuously, leading to a significant accumulation of lint and dust, increasing the likelihood of fire. According to a 2022 report by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), washers and dryers cause an average of 15,970 fires each year, with dryers causing 92% of them and an average of $200 million in property damage. Cleaning commercial dryer vents greatly reduces the risk of fire. Besides, commercial dryer duct cleaning notably enhances energy efficiency and reduces utility expenses. Did you know that a dryer clogged with lint begins to malfunction, resulting in higher operating costs and increased repair bills?

When to Consider Dryer Vent Cleaning Commercial

Longer Drying Time

If it's taking longer than usual for your laundry to dry (up to 40-45 minutes or more), it may signal a clogged vent, indicating the need for cleaning.

Overheating

If your dryer feels unusually hot to the touch on the outside while in operation, it's a red flag that warrants attention.

Burning Smell

Have you noticed a burning smell when your dryer operates? It is a critical sign of a clogged, potentially dangerous vent.

Abnormal Temperature of Clothing

If your clothes feel unusually warm to the touch after drying, it could point to an issue with the vent.

Yearly Maintenance

Regularly maintaining your dryer vent is crucial to prevent lint build-up. Despite routine cleaning of the lint filter, lint can accumulate in the vent over time, obstructing proper airflow.

Lint Flap Fails To Open

During the drying cycle, the lint flap outside should open to facilitate proper airflow. If it fails to open, it may suggest restricted airflow due to lint build-up in the vent. Additionally, pay attention to any lint coming out of the vent as it may reveal the presence of a clog.

Dryer Alerts to a Problem

In some cases, more advanced dryers might display warning lights or error codes indicating a problem with the system's efficiency. If your dryer provides such messages, it's crucial not to ignore them and address the issue promptly.

Dryer Shutdowns

If your dryer repeatedly switches off or stops working during the drying cycle it could be a safety mechanism built into the dryer that automatically shuts off when excessive heat is detected.

What is your dryer vent cleaning process for commercial spaces?

Our commercial dryer vent cleaning process involves the following steps:

    • First, the technician disconnects the vent from the back of the dryer unit to get access to the exhaust vent.
    • Second , he's using the vacuum (HEPA Filtrated RIDGID® Model 1610RV) connected to one of the vent ends, creating a suction effect. From the other end, he's using a special attachment for the vent, that allows him to use the Flexible Dryer Vent Brush powered by the drill, which purpose is to push the lint inside of the vent towards the vacuum sucking it from the other end. The same process is done on the other side to make sure the dryer vent is vacuumed and brushed from both sides. In case we don't have access from the inside (e.g. it's a stackable unit, or else), the technician will provide the cleaning from the outside, turning the dryer on, which provides the air pressure from the inside, then using the brushes from the outside exhaust to break and allow the lint to escape.
    • Finally, he's connecting the dryer vent back in and checking the work of the unit.

What I can do to minimize fire risk?

To minimize fire risk, follow these steps:

    • Regularly remove lint and dust from the areas behind and around dryers.
    • Avoid the use of fabric softener sheets, as they can lead to the buildup of a chemical film.
    • To prevent the accumulation of lint, make it a practice to clean the lint traps of all machines before or after every load.
    • If possible, think about swapping out plastic and foil accordion-style ducts behind your dryers with metal ducts.
    • Clean your commercial dryer ducts at least once a year.

How often should I clean my commercial dryer vent?

We recommend annual cleaning for most commercial facilities.
